Several of our friends had babies lately. (How many people “have” 13-year-old children? They adopt those, right?) Either way, this comic from Toothpaste for Dinner nicely captured their collective, holistic experiences of the first few weeks of parenthood.

At least, until I find a comic about pooping.

Yeah, you spend a couple of months having to remember that the head and body are not actually attached.

Well, okay, they are. I mean, they’re definitely supposed to be. If they’re actually not, you have a problem. The sort where you need to call the emergency room. Actually, never mind, don’t bother. That’s more of a “call your lawyer” problem, or possibly a “call the airline that flies to Bolivia because they don’t have extradition” problem.

But, my point is, I have the “Baby User’s Manual,” and in all the diagrams of how to hold a baby (e.g., ), they clearly show that the head and body are not connected. Definitely a good reminder of floppiness.

I’m happy to report, however, that (a) Ari is still simply connected, in the topological sense; and (b) she’s not especially floppy anymore, except maybe when she falls asleep.
